I was shocked when I realized I was hoarding not just tabs and files on my computer, but echoes. Remnants. Digital dust from old dreams, expired seasons, and people I no longer speak to. Folders full of moments that once meant something, now taking up space that could hold something new.
When I paused long enough to notice, I saw how low my storage was.
Not just on my phone… but in me.
That second thought hit like a sermon: You can’t hold your future if both hands are gripping your past.
I started deleting. Purging. Clearing room. Not just digitally, but energetically.
And I thought about how many of us especially those who’ve moved abroad, don’t even realize we brought half our emotional closets with us.
Old shoes.
Unworn versions of ourselves. Attachments to people who no longer align with our becoming.
Some of us packed pain in our carry-ons and called it “just in case.” But baby, there’s no customs line for baggage you refuse to name.
We romanticize the leap, the plane ride, the fresh start. But nobody talks enough about the spiritual immigration process.
Leaving your old life for a new one is not just a passport stamp, it’s a soul requirement.
And not everyone can or will meet that challenge. That’s not judgment. That’s math.
See, I used to resent people who couldn’t show up for my growth.
Now I understand: They couldn’t even show up for their own.
Some things are unfortunate. Some things are understandable. Most things are both. But one thing is certain your new life cannot begin until you create space for it to land.
So let this be your gentle nudge or your cosmic shove: Go delete that old file.
Take that name out your mouth and your favorites list.
Throw away the dusty shoes you’ve outgrown. Grieve the you that stayed too long.
And whisper “thank you” to that chapter and “welcome” the future you are becoming.
You’ve made it this far. Now make room. XO
